Pros

  • Ease of use: While powerful, Massive is also one of the less complicated digital synthesizers on the market, and users can expect to have a grasp on the basic features within the first few minutes of use, thanks to its clean and intuitive interface.
  • Wide range of sounds: With three separate oscillators, over 100 wavetables and four methods of processing them, the possibilities are nearly infinite from only the first stage of synthesis. Paired with two separate assignable filters that can work serially or in parallel, you can immediately see the levels of depth attainable in Massive.
  • Performer: Unique to Massive, the Performer enables the user to create a unique rhythmic pattern, and assign it to almost any element of the sound. Frequently heard in dubstep and other dance music, the versatility and ease of use of the Performer is unmatched by any other currently available synthesizer.

Cons

  • Weak onboard effects: While the oscillators and filters are very impressive, the assignable effects leave a bit to be desired, especially where distortion is concerned. While not unusable, their work may better be done by other VSTs.
  • Distinguishable sound: While experienced users may circumvent this, the fact remains that Massive has a distinctly digital sound, and as such, may not be the perfect tool for more professional sound design endeavors.

Produced by Native Instruments, Massive is a wave-scanning synthesizer with a wide array of unique functions that allow the user to explore new dimensions in sound design. Massive features over 100 unique wavetables and a nearly unparalleled amount of control over the sound with its intuitive interface. Used and praised by some of the biggest names in the electronic music industry such as Skrillex and Rusko, Massive remains a truly groundbreaking digital synthesizer, and sets the standard for digital music creation.
